Recognized as a trusted expert, he has led enterprise-wide security strategies, built resilient risk management programs, and fostered security-aware cultures that drive business success.
As the Founder and Principal Consultant at Cyberdiligent, a Dallas-based Cybersecurity, Risk, Privacy, and AI/ML Governance advisory firm, Russell provides strategic guidance to boards, C-suites, and executives, helping organizations strengthen their cybersecurity posture and meet regulatory requirements. As a Cybersecurity C-Suite and Teams Advisor at the Institute of Advanced Network Security (IANS), he contributes to the global security community through consulting, research, and education.
Russell has held key leadership positions, including Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Data Privacy Officer at Pacific Premier Bank and CISO at Apex Fintech Solutions, where he spearheaded transformative and emerging technologies security initiatives. Russell's prior experience includes establishing an IT Risk program for Mr. Cooper, the largest Fitch-rated mortgage servicer in the US, serving over 4.2 million customers and a UPB of $937 billion.
A thought leader in the industry, he has spoken at major events such as the 2022 Africa Fintech Summit and the 2024 Africa CISO Summit. His contributions to the field have earned him prestigious accolades, including the Mortgage Bankers Future Leaders Award (2019), the Cybersecurity Excellence Award – Team of the Year (2021), and recognition as one of CyberDefense Magazine’s Top Global CISOs (2023).
He also serves on the Advisory Board of deeptrack.io, an AI deepfake detection and identity verification startup in Kenya. He provides strategic guidance on security, risk, and AI-driven and responsible use of identity verification solutions.
